Opportunity Opportunity is created by awareness. In any given context, an understanding of what is needed creates the preconditions for the identification of an opportunity. In respect of opportunity, the context of spirituality is no different: spiritual opportunity is created by an awareness of purpose and of the requirements attaching to this. For the soul, which has a knowingness of purpose, every lifetime in the physical form - every personality -is an opportunity. Through the outworking of what esoteric tradition calls the Law of Opportunity, the soul ensures that a baby is born to the parents and in the circumstances which will assist the unfolding of the design for that lifetime. Until the personality has achieved a degree of alignment with the soul, there are no spiritual opportunities: there is simply the turning of the wheel of life which brings a succession of experiences, judged good or bad depending upon the extent of the gain or loss, pleasure or pain involved. As the personality becomes more aware of the soul, then spiritual opportunities increase. Awareness of purpose turns the wheel of life into a cycle of opportunity which, when the opportunities are grounded by intelligent decision- making, produces an accelerating pace of development. Eventually, for the personality as for the soul, its very existence will be recognised as an opportunity. Opportunity arrives, and must be expected, in a myriad forms including those involving loss, denial, and failure. It is not the form which makes an opportunity: it is what the form makes possible. We have to create our own opportunities, fashioning them out of the events and circumstances brought by the wheel of life. We have to discover opportunities like hidden objects in a child's picture puzzle. They are created when consciousness makes a connection between the inner self and outer circumstances, between a personality and its purpose, and when those connections are strong enough to overlay conditioning and personal preference, the biggest enemies of an authentic appraisal of opportunity. Opportunities are created by the decision to view a particular situation positively and to allow it to work for us. They can be found by looking forward in time but also by looking back. Even the bleakest experience can be viewed as a lesson and the bitter residue which otherwise it would leave in the psyche will be dispersed. The choice whether or not to do this is ours alone. It is an aspect of free will. In the final analysis, opportunity is created by recognition and acceptance. Horoscopy can define purpose and it can also use a person's birth chart to locate potential opportunities in time, even defining the form in which they are likely to arrive, but an opportunity comes into being only when it has been recognised, its terms have been accepted, and it has been invited to become a part of a person's reality.
