Pisces
These notes are based upon the teachings of Djwhal Khul presented in Alice
Bailey’s Esoteric Astrology (Lucis Trust, 1951).
It is the work of the zodiacal influences to evoke the emergence of the will aspect
of the Heavenly Man and of all monads, souls and personalities who constitute the planetary body of expression.
...
The goal of evolution for humanity is to become consciously and livingly aware of the nature of these energies
and begin to know them and to use them.
PISCES
NEW MOON 15 DEGREES PISCES 6TH MARCH 2000
People born in this sign are frequently to be found serving the race and ministering to its
need upon some level of consciousness. ... The life of service and the directed intention to serve constitute a
scientific mode of achieving release.
Pisces, Virgo, Gemini and Sagittarius are the signs of the mutable cross, which is predominantly
the cross of repeated incarnations and varied experiments under various signs (see Endnote 1). Variety of experience
thus gained leads to the expansion of consciousness. This is the cross of mass experience, presiding over the gradual
development of instinctual consciousness into intellectual consciousness, as the experience of duality becomes
clear in the human mind.
The duality of Pisces derives from the fusion of soul and form in human beings, potentially producing the ‘perfected
individual soul, the completed manifestation of the microcosm’: the Incarnated Christ. That is to say, consciousness
of duality in Pisces is consciousness of the relationship between the Macrocosm (God, the Divine) and the microcosm
(the human being). A parable concerned with the Piscean stage of consciousness and the awakening of Christ consciousness
is Jonah and the Whale. Jonah is the indwelling, imprisoned Christ and the whale is the bondage of incarnation
and personality.
The glyph for Pisces represents this duality: the two fishes bound together by a thread. One fish is the soul,
the other the personality or the form nature. The thread is the vital silver cord which simultaneously connects
us to Heaven and Earth, making each being the meeting place, and the alchemical vessel, for divine and earthly
energies. The silver cord keeps soul and personality bound together throughout the cycle of manifested life. In
Pisces the imprisoned soul and the personality/form nature enter upon a process of transmutation. This process
converts:-
1. The lower nature into higher manifestation;
2. The lower psychical powers into higher spiritual faculties:
Mediumship into mediatorship
Clairvoyance into spiritual perception
Clairaudience into inspiration
Instinct into intellect
Selfishness into selflessness
Acquisitiveness into renunciation
Self-preservation into selfless world service
Self-pity into compassion;
3. Spiritual/mental inhibition into soul expression and mental sensitivity;
4. Devotion to the needs of self into devotion and response to the needs of humanity;
5. Attachment to environment and personality conditions to detachment from form and the ability to identify with
the soul.
The keynotes of duality in Pisces are bondage/captivity, renunciation/detachment, sacrifice/death. The first
renunciation comes when the soul detaches itself from the life of the Monad and
Descends into the ocean of matter ...and functions from its own centre, making its own new and material attachments.
Then, upon the reversal of the wheel, it proceeds to detach itself from the personality and re-attach itself in
consciousness to the One Who sent it forth.
The qualities of Will and Sacrifice are thus embodied in order to redeem matter by devotion: Pisces energy thus
seeks to serve. The lowest expression of this is servitude; the highest is the service of the Christ, a World Saviour.
Pisces is marked by impressibility and receptivity: it is the sign of mediatorship. Spiritualistic work occurs
in Pisces with Cancer rising, or Cancer with Pisces rising. The fluid, sensitive temperament of Pisces -- mediumistic
and psychically polarised -- must be stabilised in its opposite sign, Virgo. Virgo tempers Pisces with mental introspection
and critical analysis: an awakening mind. Without the balancing effects of Virgo, Pisces is susceptible to psychic
sensitivity without discernment:
The ordinary low-grade medium is the outstanding example of the worst aspects of Pisces - negativity, impressionability,
animal and emotional sensitivity with complete undevelopment of the mental principle.
Jupiter, the orthodox ruler of Pisces, oversees the relationship between the two fishes, bringing soul and form
to magnetic potency. Developing qualities of head/heart, mind/love and will/wisdom, Jupiter creates synthesis between
the two levels of being. Jupiter, which is an agent for the Second Ray, indicates that the way of incarnation is
a beneficent method of evolutionary unfoldment.
Neptune, the modern orthodox ruler of Pisces, focuses the influence of Pisces as it concerns humanity as a whole.
As humanity moves towards the position of World Disciple ( see Endnote 2), Neptune becomes increasingly influential
as Pisces’ ruler. The esoteric ruler of Pisces is Pluto. Pluto signifies death and the region of death. Death never
destroys consciousness. The death Pluto brings to Pisces is the death of desire, of personality and of all that
holds the individual between the pairs of opposition arising from Piscean duality. That is to say, Pluto resolves
duality and thereby releases the soul.
Pisces governs the feet. This again shows the duality of Pisces: the feet of the individual walk upon the world
(the collective or planetary consciousness) to which we all belong. Governing the feet, Pisces governs also the
intention to progress, the treading the Path of Return, and the attainment of the goal.
1. The three crosses are:-
the mutable cross which governs experience in form
the fixed cross which governs the development of consciousness
the cardinal cross which governs the development of spiritual will
2. A disciple is to be defined as one consciously and consistently working with the idea of spiritual development.
World Discipleship will be attained when humanity collectively expresses this level of development.
